Frequent Fox Sports Guest Fatally Shot Outside His Home: James Dodds Was 64

James Dodds, a longtime radio personality known to many sports fans as "Uncle Jimmy" through his appearances on Fox Sports programs, has died after being shot outside his Kansas City home. He was 64.

Police said Dodds was found with gunshot wounds Sunday evening and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He died Monday from his injuries, per the Kansas City Star.

Authorities have arrested and charged three 18-year-olds in connection with the shooting. According to reports, Aaron Johnson, Mark Elliott Nash and Marquel McGee each face first-degree murder charges. Officials have not publicly released a motive in the case.

Dodds became a familiar figure to sports audiences through his association with sports commentator Jason Whitlock, appearing on radio programs and later making regular guest appearances on the Fox Sports show Speak for Yourself.

Whitlock paid tribute to Dodds during a recent broadcast, recalling a friendship that spanned decades.

"For maybe 25 years, Uncle Jimmy was a huge part of my life," Whitlock said.

Former NFL player and sports broadcaster Marcellus Wiley also remembered Dodds in a social media post.

"Thank you for the laughs, the wisdom, and the memories," Wiley wrote. "You were truly one of one."

Known affectionately as "Uncle Jimmy," Dodds developed a loyal following through his radio work and sports media appearances, earning a reputation for his humor, storytelling and candid observations.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Dodds is survived by family members and friends who have continued to share tributes following his death.
