Netflix has released the first trailer for The Hawk, an upcoming comedy series starring Ferrell as Lonnie "The Hawk" Hawkins, a washed-up golf legend chasing one last shot at glory.
And if the trailer is any indication, fans of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby should feel right at home.
Ferrell brings the same over-the-top confidence, awkward charm and lovable chaos that helped make Ricky Bobby one of the most memorable sports comedy characters of the past two decades.
In The Hawk, Lonnie refuses to accept that his best days are behind him. His body may be telling him it's time to retire, but he's determined to complete golf's career Grand Slam with one final major championship.
Standing in his way is more than Father Time.
His ex-wife, played by Molly Shannon, and his son Lance, portrayed by Jimmy Tatro, both believe his playing career is over. Lonnie, however, has other ideas.
The series also stars Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver and David Hornsby.
Ferrell co-created the series and serves as an executive producer alongside Jessica Elbaum, Alix Taylor, Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, Nena Rodriguez and Andy Campagna.
Netflix has also been promoting the show by having Ferrell appear in character as Lonnie Hawkins, treating the fictional golfer like a real sports legend while sending him on a promotional tour ahead of the premiere.
Whether The Hawk reaches the cult status of Talladega Nights remains to be seen. But based on the first trailer, Ferrell hasn't lost his fastball when it comes to sports comedies.
The Hawk premieres July 16 on Netflix.
