Authorities arrested Miller in Idaho on June 6 after a traffic stop. According to TMZ, the officer claimed in the affidavit that Miller had a "white dispensary bag containing psilocybin mushrooms." That led to two misdemeanor drug charges — one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Miller posted $5,000 bond to secure his release from jail. He then pleaded not guilty to the drug charges.
Attorney Jeremy Stafford has since provided another update to TMZ. He told the outlet that the police did not find drugs on Miller's person. Instead, the passenger in the vehicle took responsibility for the mushrooms, as well as marijuana and a pipe.
The prosecutor on the case also confirmed to the outlet that they had dropped the charges. They did not provide many details due to the specifics being related to another active case.
"Although the deputy had sufficient probable cause to arrest Mr. Miller at the beginning of June, we recently received information which resulted in our office determining it is in the interest of justice to dismiss Mr. Miller's misdemeanor charges," the prosecutor said.
An Alpine skier, Miller competed in the Olympics multiple times while representing the United States. He won two silver medals during the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah — one in the giant slalom and the other in the combined event.
He also won a bronze medal in the downhill event and a silver medal in the super-G (super giant slalom) in the 2010 Olympics, as well as a gold medal in the super combined event.
Miller's last appearance in the Olympics took place in 2014. He won a bronze medal in the super-G event while competing in Sochi, Russia.
