"I've been on and off vocal rest for close to 3 (sic) months trying to heal a damaged vocal cord," Simpson wrote in an Instagram post. "We decided to operate to aid the recovery, then I discolated my knee rehearsing for a new music video and we had to push surgery back to let my knee settle.
"I can't walk or talk for some time now, and no singing or dancing for months to come. I've been pushing my body and mind for years now non-stop and I'm taking time to reflect and understand this for what it is: forced rest. The album and live shows have to wait, but I've got some work to share while I'm down for the count."
Simpson noted that despite the injury, he still shot the music video for an upcoming single.
The health update comes one month after a significant moment in Simpson's life. He received a token from the Australian Swim Team, which recognized his services. The gift featured a photo of him in the pool.
While Simpson is currently known for his singing and acting, he spent several years competing in pools around the world. This includes time on the University of Southern California's swim team.
He also competed in multiple competitions in the professional ranks, which include the Commonwealth Games and the Australian Swimming Championships. He won a gold medal at the 2022 Australian Short Course Championships, and he helped Australia win a gold medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Simpson, who trained under two-time Olympian Brett Hawke, attempted to qualify for the Olympic Games. He fell short of the Tokyo Games in 2020 and the Paris Games in 2024 before ultimately retiring and shifting his full focus back to music.
"I did what I could do, and that's all you can do. I've come a lot further in the last four years than perhaps I could have bargained for," Cody said after falling short of Paris, per the Olympics website.
"Starting from zero and trying to see how far I could get in half or a third of the time that everybody else has been training, just to do right by that kid in me that gave it up to go and pursue something else, which I had an incredible journey."
