Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee announced Tuesday that she has returned to training after stepping away from competition, immediately sparking excitement about a possible run at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
The 23-year-old shared the news in a video posted to Instagram, offering a simple but powerful message.
"I know what I'm capable of," Lee says in the video. "I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get there. Back in the gym."
The video ends with the words, "This is more than a comeback. Stay tuned." Lee kept her caption just as brief: "I'm back."
While Lee hadn't publicly committed to another Olympic cycle following the 2024 Paris Games, the video is the strongest indication yet that she's setting her sights on competing again.
If she does, it would mark yet another remarkable chapter in an already inspiring career.
Lee captured the all-around gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics before facing a major health challenge during her time at Auburn. A kidney-related illness forced her to step away from gymnastics and spend nearly two years managing the condition while fighting to return to elite competition.
She completed that comeback in spectacular fashion at the Paris Olympics, helping Team USA win gold while also earning bronze medals in the all-around and uneven bars.
The all-around bronze was particularly significant, making Lee the first reigning Olympic champion to return to the all-around podium at the following Games since gymnastics legend Nadia Comaneci accomplished the feat decades ago.
Lee has also shared that her health has improved dramatically, saying last year that she wakes up without pain and feels like her condition is finally under control.
Now, she's back where she feels most at home.
