According to Deadline, Tim Robbins and Sissy Spacek have joined the cast of The Catch, Universal Pictures' baseball-themed rom-com starring Stone and Chris Pine.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 21, 2027, and is being directed by Dave McCary.

While Universal has kept plot details under wraps, Deadline reports the movie has been described as a baseball romance in the spirit of Bull Durham and Notting Hill.

That makes Robbins' casting especially fitting.

The Oscar-winning actor starred opposite Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon in the beloved 1988 baseball classic Bull Durham, playing hard-throwing pitching prospect Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh in one of the sport's most iconic films.

Deadline notes that Bull Durham helped inspire The Catch, making Robbins' addition something of a full-circle moment.

Spacek, meanwhile, brings decades of acclaimed film experience to the project. The Academy Award winner joins a cast that already includes Stone, Pine, Ashley Padilla and comedian Druski.

The screenplay was most recently rewritten by Jen Statsky and Travis Helwig, with Stone also serving as one of the film's producers.

Sports movies have seen a resurgence in recent years, and with an award-winning cast, a baseball backdrop and a clear nod to one of the genre's all-time classics, The Catch is already shaping up as one of the more intriguing sports films on the horizon.
