The Red Bull athlete is set to attempt what Discovery is calling the highest freefall dive in Shark Week history, leaping from a helicopter hovering above the open ocean into waters surrounded by reef sharks.

The stunt will headline Ultimate Shark Dive, one of 20 new specials premiering during Discovery's annual Shark Week event, which begins July 26.

According to Discovery, Carlson's target is a narrow plexiglass safety cage positioned in the ocean below. Missing it could send her directly into chum-filled waters surrounded by circling sharks, making for one of the most daring stunts in the event's history.

Carlson is widely regarded as one of the world's top cliff divers and has built a massive following through her performances in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series.

The special joins a packed Shark Week lineup featuring actor and comedian Ken Jeong, explorer Josh Gates, shark expert Paul de Gelder and marine biologist Dr. Tristan Guttridge, among others.

This year's schedule also includes investigations into massive great white sharks, orca attacks, prehistoric shark species and several record-setting expeditions.

Ultimate Shark Dive premieres Thursday, July 30, at 10 p.m. ET on Discovery as part of Shark Week's weeklong lineup.

Whether Carlson sticks the landing or not, her helicopter leap into shark-filled waters is shaping up to be one of Shark Week's biggest moments yet.
