Hannah Rapp, a female boxer who challenged for a WBC championship in June, has passed away after an incident in Texas. She was 26.

According to ESPN, Rapp died on Saturday morning. She was riding her bicycle in Brazos County, Texas, when a vehicle struck her. The authorities said that this vehicle passed her on the highway before suddenly stopping and reversing into her.
Rapp was transported to a local hospital, where she was ultimately pronounced dead. The authorities arrested the driver of the vehicle, 31-year-old Charles Medina, on a manslaughter charge and booked him into Brazos County Detention Center.

According to reporter Rusty Surette, the arrest report said that Medina nearly hit Rapp and her boyfriend as they rode their bicycles. They then reportedly yelled and threw their hands in the air. At that point, Medina reportedly slammed on the brakes and accelerated in reverse.
Medina reportedly said that he traveled 15 mph in reverse and that he didn't see Rapp. He said that he thought they had tried to flag him down. The investigators said that the skid marks and the witness statement from her boyfriend are consistent with the vehicle "rapidly accelerating" toward them.
Surette reported that this marked the 13th time since 2012 that Medina has been booked into the Brazos County jail. Other charges include assault, hit and run, reckless driving, and deadly conduct among others.
"The loss of Hannah Rapp leaves us heartbroken," World Boxing Council (WBC) president Mauricio Sulaiman said in a statement. "She was an exceptional boxer, but above all, an invaluable member of our boxing family.
"We join in the grief that overwhelms her loved ones, her team, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and supporting her throughout her brilliant career."
A former track athlete, Rapp began her boxing career with an 8-0-1 record. She then challenged WBC Featherweight World Champion Tiara Brown for the title in Orlando. Judges awarded Brown a victory by unanimous decision due to her performance over 10 rounds.
The WBC and North American Boxing Federation (NABF) both asked the boxing community to lift up prayer for Rapp. The organizations said they stand with her family during this period of "profound darkness."
