Indiana football player Tyrone Burrus Jr. will not face criminal charges following his arrest on preliminary allegations of felony strangulation and domestic battery.

Burrus, a 19-year-old redshirt freshman defensive tackle, was arrested Thursday following an altercation with 18-year-old Kira Motley at an apartment complex in Bloomington, Indiana. Motley also was arrested on a preliminary domestic battery charge.
Prosecutors announced Friday that neither will be charged.
"We determined that the case cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt," Monroe County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jeff Kehr said in a statement to the Bloomington Herald-Times.
According to Bloomington police, officers responded to the Empire Apartments around 3 p.m. Thursday.
Motley told police Burrus pushed her multiple times in the chest and shoulder area and alleged that he strangled her with his hand and forearm. Burrus told officers that Motley broke a mirror inside his home, pushed him and pepper-sprayed him in the eyes.
Police said Burrus had scratches on several areas of his body, including his neck, chest, shoulder, back, face and arm. Officers photographed the injuries, interviewed a witness and reviewed video footage while investigating the incident.
Indiana's athletic department had not publicly commented on the matter as of Friday.
Burrus, an Indianapolis native, appeared in two games for the Hoosiers last season. He emerged from spring practice as a candidate for a larger role on Indiana's defensive line this fall.
The arrest was believed to be the first involving an Indiana football player since Curt Cignetti became the Hoosiers' head coach. Cignetti is entering his third season after leading Indiana to the national championship last season.
