The sanctioning body has confirmed that the race in downtown Chicago remains a priority. However, the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series and Cup Series drivers will not compete on the city streets in the immediate future.

Instead, Chicagoland Speedway will once again host these two series during the 2027 season. This track returned from the dead this season and enjoyed a sellout crowd.

"Following three successful years, the NASCAR Chicago Street Race will not return on the 2027 schedule," NASCAR said in a press release.

"Chicagoland Speedway represents NASCAR's ongoing commitment to the greater Chicagoland region, which remains a top market with over one million NASCAR fans."

The Chicago Street Race first appeared on the schedule during the 2023 season. NASCAR took its top two series to the Windy City and battled through some serious weather issues.

Cole Custer won the rain-shortened O'Reilly Series race. Shane van Gisbergen won the Cup Series race in his first-ever start in NASCAR.

The top two series returned to Chicago in both 2024 and 2025. Van Gisbergen won the O'Reilly Series races in both seasons, as well as the 2025 Cup Series race. Alex Bowman won the 2024 race through downtown Chicago.

All of these races took place around the Fourth of July weekend. The expectation in the garage was that the race would eventually return to the city streets, but it would move to a new date.

The Athletic and The Chicago Tribune had both reported earlier in the summer that NASCAR and the city of Chicago had engaged in productive talks about a return of the event. It appeared that the race would be back on the schedule after a one-year hiatus.

However, those talks did not progress as expected. Funding for the event reportedly became a sticking point in the negotiations. Ultimately, a deal failed to happen, so the Chicago Street Race will remain off the NASCAR schedule for another year.
