Speaking with Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, Maye reflected on many moments from the 29-13 loss in which he completed 27 passes for 295 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Specifically, he told Breer that he could have made more plays to help out the team.

"The way that last game ended ... " Maye said. "I feel like when our defense played the way it played, it gave us a chance to win. It's my responsibility, with the offense, to put points on the board. When you feel like you don't do your part, that's what eats at you.

"What could I have done more after practice to hit that throw? I can think of five, 10 plays in the Super Bowl right now where you're like, Man, this play could change your life. You win this game, and just knowing that that's gone, and how much work you have to put in to get back to that moment, it's just something that I won't forget. I think it'll help me."

What plays did he mention? The list included throwing a deep pass in the direction of DeMario Douglas instead of finding running back Rhamondre Stevenson for some easy yards. The Seahawks had Douglas covered while Stevenson remained open.

Make no mistake — Maye made many plays throughout the 2025-26 season. He went 14-3 as a starter while throwing for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He led the NFL by completing 72% of his passes.

The larger issue for Maye surfaced during the playoffs. He threw four interceptions and fumbled seven times in four games. He threw two of these interceptions during Super Bowl 60, and he fumbled once.

The turnovers are something that the Patriots are working to address as Maye enters his third season as the starter.

Head coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels have worked with the quarterback on a development plan, which includes using his knowledge of the offensive scheme to get the team out of bad plays. They have also worked on keeping him ahead of the defenses now that more of his film is available.

The plan for the Patriots is to perform better than last year, and the team will face a major challenge in the opening week of the season. Maye's first test will come on Sept. 9 as he takes on the last team he faced — the Seahawks. He will get his rematch during a trip to the West Coast.
