So much for Vita Vea leaving Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers have agreed to a one-year, $30 million contract extension with their star defensive tackle, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, ending a contentious stretch that included a hold-in and trade request.
Vea is now under contract through the 2027 season.
The new deal reportedly includes $30 million guaranteed and adds $6 million to the $18 million Vea was already scheduled to make this season, bringing his 2026 compensation to $24 million. He's set to make another $24 million in 2027.
That's quite a turnaround from where things stood just a few weeks ago.
Vea had been staying off the practice field while seeking a new contract and eventually requested a trade. His agent, Collin Roberts, publicly suggested earlier this month that a trade appeared to be the most likely outcome.
ESPN sources: Two-time Pro-Bowl DT Vita Vea and the Buccaneers reached agreement today on a one-year extension for $30 million, tying him to Tampa Bay for two more seasons. He gets $6 million in new money this season.

Instead, the two sides found $30 million worth of common ground.
Vea, 31, has spent his entire eight-year NFL career with Tampa Bay after the Buccaneers selected him No. 12 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.
The massive defensive tackle helped Tampa Bay win Super Bowl LV and has earned two Pro Bowl selections. He recorded a career-high seven sacks in 2024.
Keeping Vea also provides some welcome stability for a Buccaneers team that lost longtime star wide receiver Mike Evans to the San Francisco 49ers during the offseason.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield's future remains another issue to resolve, with his contract set to expire after the season.
But one potential headache is officially gone. Vea wanted a new contract or a trade. He got the contract.
