Chicago White Sox announcer John Schriffen had the kind of live television moment every broadcaster would prefer to have back.

During Wednesday's MLB game between the White Sox and Houston Astros, Schriffen was discussing Jose Altuve when he appeared to accidentally use the R-word.
Or at least that's certainly what it sounded like.
"Altuve is r——-," Schriffen appeared to say before continuing with the broadcast.
It didn't take long for the clip to make its way around social media.
"Jose Altuve is what?" one post asked, while another simply captioned the video, "whoops."
Exactly what Schriffen intended to say wasn't immediately clear.
That's part of the danger of live sports broadcasting. Announcers are constantly reacting to action while processing statistics, storylines and whatever is happening in front of them. Sometimes the words don't come out quite as intended.

Unfortunately for Schriffen, this particular combination of words and syllables produced something considerably more memorable than your typical broadcasting stumble.
The game itself didn't go particularly well for Altuve and the Astros, either. Chicago defeated Houston 5-1 to even the four-game series at one game apiece.
Altuve, of course, has put together one of baseball's most decorated careers. The longtime Astros star is a nine-time All-Star, former American League MVP and two-time World Series champion.
None of that was really the discussion on social media Wednesday night. Instead, everyone wanted to know exactly what the White Sox announcer just said.
And Schriffen probably wishes they hadn't heard it.
