Packers receiver Jayden Reed will undergo neck surgery and miss the rest of the NFL season after being injured against the Jets on Sept. 20.

Coach Matt LaFleur confirmed Wednesday that Reed will be placed on injured reserve. LaFleur said he does not expect the injury to end Reed's career, though the receiver faces a lengthy recovery, according to ESPN.
Reed was hurt on the second play from scrimmage. Medical personnel secured him to a backboard and took him off the field on a cart. He had movement in his arms and legs but remained in New Jersey that night rather than traveling home with the team.
"Any time you go through a situation like that, it's a pretty scary deal," LaFleur said. The coach added that seeing one of his players in that position "shocks you."
Reed posted a brief message on Instagram Wednesday: "God will use the unusual to do the unexpected... 11 out."
It is the second consecutive season an injury has interrupted Reed's year early. He broke his collarbone in Week 2 last season, underwent surgery and returned for Green Bay's final four regular-season games.
The Packers signed Reed to a three-year, $50.25 million extension in April. A second-round pick in 2023, he led the team in receiving in each of his first two seasons.
Green Bay had planned to feature Reed alongside Christian Watson and Matthew Golden after parting with other receivers during the offseason. That plan now changes. The immediate concern, as LaFleur made clear, is Reed's recovery.
