NASCAR Champ Calls Carson Hocevar 'Walking Highlight Reel'

A three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion has weighed in on the Carson Hocevar discussion. Joey Logano has referred to his fellow driver as a walking highlight reel.

As Logano explained, Hocevar has approached his career in a different way than past drivers who irked the veterans with how they raced. He isn't saying it's the right way or the wrong way. Logano is just saying that it's different than himself or many other drivers.

"I think anytime he's on the racetrack he's kind of a highlight reel of some sort, whether it's restarts or the incidents that he's in," Logano said during a media session this week. "You kind of know like something is gonna happen.

"There's not many times after a race we're not talking about him, that he made a move or did something. Good or bad, it's always a storyline. He's a walking highlight reel and there's a lot of good to be said about that. There's a lot of great things about that for the sport, for him, for his team."

Of course, Logano noted that highlights don't always lead to the all-important wins or success in the playoff format. Sometimes, they go hand-in-hand. Other times, the highlights stand out while the driver falls out of championship contention.

Hocevar has experienced both circumstances during his brief Cup Series career. He won the spring race at Talladega Superspeedway in exciting fashion, and he went viral with his unique celebration.

The Spire Motorsports driver also experienced some issues during other races where he drew considerable attention. This includes the trip to Indianapolis Motor Speedway when he went out of his way to flip off Corey Heim in the middle of the race, only to finish ninth while Heim won.

The head-turning moments also took place at Bristol Motor Speedway. Hocevar and Ryan Blaney made contact on the track, which led to Blaney wrecking. Hocevar then punched Blaney twice during a post-race confrontation while Logano celebrated a race win.

"You have to look at that and say what's right and what's wrong, but everyone has their own way of going about things, and I think he's a polarizing character on the racetrack," Logano added.

"If I take the driver hat off and look at that, I go it's probably good for the sport. Whether I root for him or not is not really the point of it, it's 'Hey, people are talking about it,' and that's probably okay."

To Logano's point, Hocevar has built up a sizable fanbase during his time driving for Spire Motorsports in the Cup Series. He has spent considerable time signing autographs at the track and responding to fans online while streaming iRacing sessions.

Hocevar has become immensely popular in the garage while simultaneously irritating his fellow drivers, and it doesn't appear that this trend is changing anytime soon.
