The league announced that York has received a six-game suspension and a $500,000 fine for violating the league's personal conduct policy. York has remained away from the team during the first three weeks of the regular season, so this will count toward his suspension.
The 49ers owner will be eligible to return to the team following the Oct. 19 game against the Commanders.
York, 46, was arrested in East Palestine, Ohio, on Aug. 21. Police said that he answered an undercover ad and agreed to pay $160 for an hour of sexual activity. He then arrived at a mobile home park, where the authorities arrested him.
He originally faced a charge tied to prostitution, but prosecutors amended it to a disorderly conduct charge. He pleaded no contest to the charge, as well as possessing criminal tools.
He received a $1,150 fine and a one-day jail sentence for the misdemeanor charges. He received credit for time served. He has since completed an online course as part of his plea agreement.
According to the NFL, the $160 seized by police have since headed to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force as a donation.
"Today, the NFL concluded its review, and I accept its decision in full," York said in a statement. "To my family, to the players, coaches, and employees of the San Francisco 49ers, to our fans and partners, I am deeply sorry. This was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility.
"What I did does not reflect my values or the man I strive to be for my family. While I fell short of the model I want to set for my sons, I now hope to show them the importance of owning up to one's failures, and that even our worst moments teach us to be better.
"Leading the 49ers is a privilege, and one I don't take lightly. Your trust will have to be earned back over time, and I look forward to that work ahead."
