Smith allegedly caused bodily injury to a woman on Sept. 18 by "hitting, grabbing or pushing" her with his hand, according to the complaint obtained by the New York Post. The filing describes the woman as a member of Smith's family or household, or someone with whom he had a dating relationship.

Those are allegations. The complaint does not establish that Smith committed the acts described.

Smith, 41, was arrested Monday during a traffic stop in Royse City, Texas. Police said an automatic license plate reader alerted an officer to an active warrant issued by the Southlake Police Department. He was taken to the Hunt County Detention Center and booked on a misdemeanor charge of assault causing bodily injury involving family violence. Hoops Wire reported his arrest earlier this week.

Smith was released Tuesday on $5,000 bond, according to jail records cited by the New York Post.

His attorney, Justin A. Moore, said Friday that Smith has confidence in the legal process and will address the matter in court. "He is presumed innocent," Moore said, while asking for privacy for everyone involved. Smith reportedly has a hearing scheduled later this month.

Smith played 16 NBA seasons and helped the Cavaliers win the 2016 championship. He won a second title with the Lakers in 2020. The new complaint provides an account of the alleged Sept. 18 incident; the charge has yet to be resolved in court.
