According to NASCAR, crew chief Miles Stanley is unable to make the trip to Nevada for the race weekend. The No. 21 team will bring in a different option to guide Josh Berry as he seeks his second Cup Series win at the 1.5-mile track.
Team Penske's Jefferson Hodges will serve as the crew chief for the No. 21 team this weekend. He will be atop the pit box for a Cup Series race for the first time in his career, and he will be a crew chief for the first time in a national series since 2011 when he guided Mike Skinner in one Craftsman Truck Series race.
Hodges currently works as the NASCAR team manager at Team Penske, a role he earned back in 2019. He fulfills various administrative and competition-related duties for the team's Cup Series operations, and he previously did so for the team's O'Reilly Auto Parts Series program.
Prior to joining Team Penske as the NASCAR team manager, Hodges led NASCAR's Driver for Diversity program for Rev Racing.
He took on this role in 2011 while overseeing the NASCAR ARCA Menards Series, Whelen All-American Series Late Model, and Legend Car teams. He also oversaw the development drivers who passed through the program.
Hodges will now pair with Berry during the weekend in Las Vegas. This will be one that provides another opportunity to the No. 21 team.
Berry's last three trips to Las Vegas Motor Speedway featured wildly different results. He won last season's spring race, his first time taking a car to victory lane in the Cup Series. He finished 26th in the playoff race and 31st in this season's spring race.
Berry hasn't won a race this season, but he has posted a career-best nine top-10 finishes. He will have an opportunity to add to this mark this weekend.
