The Cardinals have lost starting left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. for the rest of the NFL season after he tore his left biceps during Sunday's loss to the Giants.

Coach Mike LaFleur confirmed Monday that Johnson will undergo surgery soon, according to the Associated Press.

"I don't know exactly when it's going to happen," LaFleur told reporters, "but it's going to happen soon to get the process going."

Johnson suffered the injury on Arizona's final possession in the 36-24 defeat. He held his left arm as he walked off the field, and rookie Jayden Williams replaced him.

It leaves the Cardinals with a significant vacancy on their offensive line just four games into the season.

Johnson, 25, has made 47 starts for Arizona over the past four seasons, including all four games this year. The Cardinals selected him sixth overall out of Ohio State in the 2023 NFL Draft.

LaFleur expressed sympathy for Johnson while acknowledging the team must prepare to move forward without him.

"It sucks for him, first and foremost. It sucks obviously for the Arizona Cardinals, our offense, this team," he said. "But it's NFL football ... here we are in October and the show goes on."

Williams, a seventh-round pick out of Mississippi, handled the immediate replacement duties Sunday. The report did not identify who will start at left tackle going forward.

For Johnson, the next step is surgery and recovery. For Arizona, it is finding a way to replace an established starter at a crucial position.
