Sports Broadcaster Reveals ‘Pimple’ Was Cancer After Two Weeks Off TV

Julie Stewart-Binks thought the spot on her nose was a stubborn pimple. It turned out to be skin cancer, requiring surgery and two weeks away from television.

The SNY host and hockey reporter revealed Wednesday that she underwent Mohs surgery to remove squamous cell carcinoma. Doctors removed all the cancerous cells, she said, and used tissue from her ear to reconstruct part of her nose.

"I thought it was a pimple that wouldn't go away, turns out it was cancer," Stewart-Binks wrote in a post on X.

She said she shared the experience hoping it would encourage others to have unusual skin changes checked.

Stewart-Binks, who hosts "Honda SportsNite" and covers men's and women's professional hockey, also documented her recovery on Instagram, posting images of her bandaged face.

Along with the medical update, she described the emotional difficulty of recovering alone, according to the New York Post's Jenna Lemoncelli.

"You can be both grateful you had skin cancer removed, and also depressed dealing with it," she wrote.

By Wednesday, Stewart-Binks felt well enough to attend a Brooklyn event celebrating women's sports, though she said she was still recovering.

"Feeling a million times better than last week but not quite myself," she wrote on her Instagram Story.

She also found room for some hockey humor while explaining the skin graft.

"I've played hockey my entire life, but never felt more like a hockey player than I do now," she wrote. "Sew me up and put me in coach."
