During IGN Fan Fest, Playground Productions and Mega Cat Studios announced a brand new installment of the beloved series. The game launches July 9 on PC, Mac, and modern consoles.

For longtime fans, that date is a big deal. It marks the first new console release for Backyard Baseball in 15 years.

And yes, the backyard crew is back.

The new game brings the entire gang into the third dimension, including the undisputed legend of the series, Pablo Sanchez. Developers say the game will mix full 3D environments with some classic 2D elements to keep that nostalgic Backyard feel intact.

In other words, it's not just a reboot. It's a modern upgrade.

Playground Productions CEO Lindsay Barnett said the goal was to push the franchise forward while keeping what made it special.

"Backyard Baseball is leveling up," Barnett said. "The new game combines the charm fans remember with modern gameplay mechanics."

Mega Cat Studios CEO James Deighan echoed that sentiment, calling the project a personal one for the team.

"Backyard Baseball means a lot to a lot of players," Deighan said. "We want to capture the same joy and accessibility people remember while introducing it to a new generation."

More gameplay details, characters, and features will be revealed in the coming months.

But the biggest takeaway is simple: After nearly three decades and a 15-year console absence, Backyard Baseball is stepping back into the batter's box.
