Bentley Wolfe, a 15-year-old high school baseball player from the town of Chrisman, died after being struck in the head by a line drive earlier this month. Chrisman is a small community near the Indiana border with a population of about 1,300, making the loss even more devastating for the tight-knit town.

According to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood, Wolfe was injured during practice on March 2 when a sharply hit ball struck him in the head. The teenager was rushed to OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria the following day in critical condition as doctors fought to save his life.

Despite those efforts, Wolfe was pronounced brain dead at 5:49 p.m. on March 6.

Harwood said an autopsy later determined Wolfe suffered severe head trauma caused by blunt force impact from the baseball.

Even in tragedy, Wolfe's story has carried a powerful act of generosity. Officials said he became an organ donor, helping others in need.

"With much respect and gratitude, Bentley was a very heroic organ donor," Harwood said in a statement.

The heartbreaking accident has left classmates, teammates and community members grieving the loss of a young player remembered for his love of the game and the bright future many believed was ahead of him.
