Méndez died Sept. 4, according to Mexican outlet El Heraldo de México, which reported that his death came unexpectedly while he was doing what had long been a major part of his life: working out.
Mexican media personality Martha Debayle, whom Méndez trained and considered a friend, also confirmed that he died while exercising.
His death came on an especially heartbreaking date. Méndez and his wife, Yan, were celebrating their anniversary after 30 years together.
The couple shared three daughters, Fanny, Frida and María Regina, and Méndez regularly used social media to express how much his family meant to him.
In one Father's Day post, he shared a video with his daughters and wrote, "I couldn't be more grateful to God and life for having the best daughters in the world. I love them with all my life."
Méndez had also become a grandfather in recent years.
Tributes poured onto his social-media pages following news of his death, with fans remembering the trainer and fitness personality whose career and public identity revolved heavily around exercise.
But judging by his own posts, Méndez considered being a husband, father and grandfather his most important roles of all.
