WBA lightweight champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis was arrested early Friday morning in Miami Beach following allegations that he assaulted his ex-girlfriend during a dispute over their children last month.

According to court records and multiple local reports, Davis, 30, is facing a battery charge stemming from an incident that occurred the night of June 15 in Doral, a city just west of Miami. The mother of two of Davis' three children claims the boxer struck her in the back of the head and face during an argument outside her home.
WPLG Local 10, citing law enforcement sources, reported that the victim's mother allegedly recorded part of the confrontation, which showed Davis throwing a small box at the woman. Davis was taken into custody in Miami Beach before being transferred to the Doral Police Department. As of Friday morning, he remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with bond yet to be set.
This is not the first time the Baltimore native has faced legal trouble. Davis has a history of run-ins with the law, including a 2020 hit-and-run case and a December 2022 arrest for allegedly striking a woman with a "closed hand type slap." That case was later dropped, but it added to a growing list of off-the-ring incidents that have shadowed his career.
The arrest comes at an uncertain time in Davis' boxing future. He captured the WBA lightweight title in 2023 and had been linked to a potential rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. in August. Their first bout ended in a controversial majority draw in March, with many expecting an announcement on a second fight. Premier Boxing Champions, however, has yet to confirm the rematch.
Talk show host Andy Slater was the first to report Friday's arrest. As of now, Davis has not made a public statement, and his camp has yet to respond to inquiries.
While Davis remains undefeated in the ring, his troubles outside it continue to mount — casting fresh doubt on when, or if, he'll return to defend his crown.
