The current featherweight champion is Alexander Volkanovski, and with three losses to the Australian belt holder, Holloway (24-7-0) is trying to work his way back up the ladder into title contention. Early 2022 also saw Jung (17-7-0) being mercilessly punished by the Aussie champ. Both featherweights have scattered wins and losses in their last several outings, but "Blessed" just came off a big win when he put on a striking masterclass against Arnold Allen (19-1) this past April.
Future UFC Hall of Famer, Holloway, still owns one of the most destructive winning streaks in the division when he compiled 13 back-to-back wins against the top dogs from 2014-2018. The 145 pound class is one of the deepest in the divisions and there is absolutely no room for error. It has been nearly one and a half years since the "Korean Zombie" last fought, but Holloway is not underestimating Jung.
"He has one year and four months to get healed, get healthy, to get better as an athlete, to get better as a person, period," Holloway said according to CBS Sports. "He had to get all his affairs in order, and we'll see. I think a dangerous 'Korean Zombie' is going to show up Saturday."
Depending on the outcome of the fight, this could be Jung's last attempt at a title run. "I've wanted to fight Holloway forever," Jung said through an interpeter on Thusday. "Whenever I imagine me fighting Holloway, I also expect a slugfest to happen. Both fighters are going to be worn out to the very bottom, so it's going to be a very fun fight.
Holloway has the ability to inflict an incredible amount of damage, and both men can withstand an equal amount of it. The one thing fans can count on is that this main event will be an absolute slug fest. Come Saturday night one of these incredible fighters will be adding a new knockout to their highlight reels.
