Ryan Garcia has been banned by the World Boxing Council (WBC), after using racial slurs during a social media livestream. The boxer was ranting on an app called Spaces, which connects people via live audio conversations on X, when he directed disparaging language by using the N-word while also seemingly showcasing Islamophobia.
Garcia was talking to Sneako, who is an influencer that recently announced his conversion to Islam. (language NSFW).

Garcia also made insensitive comments about the passing of George Floyd (language NSFW).

The President of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaiman, issued out a statement Thursday announcing the penalty against Garcia on X.
"Exercising my authority as president of the WBC," wrote Sulaiman. "I am hereby expelling Ryan Garcia from any activity with our organization. We reject any form of discrimination. I fear for Ryan well being as he has declined multiple attempts for our help with mental health and substance abuse."
Garcia then wrote an apology on X, which has since been deleted.
"I was trolling I want all the killing to stop," Garcia said. "I love everyone sorry if I offended you."
There has never been a dull moment for the 25-year-old superstar boxer, ever since his win over Devin Haney on April 20, which has since been changed to be a no-contest after Garcia tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. That is to say, he is already serving a one-year suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission, because a banned substance known as ostarine was found in his system.
Furthermore, Garcia also was recently arrested on felony vandalism charges after he caused $15,000 in damages to the Waldorf Astoria hotel a few weeks back.
Regarding his recent concerning behavior, the Garcia family put out a statement, after it was announced that Ryan will be released by the WBC for the language he used on social media.
"Our family unequivocally does not support any statements [Ryan] has made regarding race or religion — these do not reflect who Ryan truly is and how he was raised," wrote the family in the statement.
They also highlighted that Garcia has been dealing with a lot of mental health issues.
"Those who know Ryan can attest to this fact. Ryan has been open about his ongoing struggle with mental health over the years and as a family we are committed to ensuring and encouraging that he receives the necessary help to navigate this very challenging time and address both his immediate and long-term well-being."
