The 3 Biggest Threats to Stop Texas A&M's SEC Title Hopes

Can the Texas A&M Aggies women's basketball team win the SEC regular season title? That's the question everyone is asking in College Station right now and all signs point to it being very possible.

As January ends, the No. 20 Aggies are 16-4 overall and 5-2 in the SEC, which is third in the league behind Mississippi State and South Carolina. And with less than 10 games to go, Texas A&M is in a good position to finish on top of the SEC standings and make a huge statement before the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

Although the SEC is tough from top to bottom, there are only three teams that should be a threat to beat the Aggies from here on out:

1. LSU

The Aggies lost to LSU 63-52 back on January 6, and the score did not really tell the story as to how bad they got outplayed. The Tigers beat them on the boards and led the game the entire way. Outside of Chennedy Carter and Ciera Johnson, the Aggies couldn't get much going offensively. The Aggies will get an opportunity to play the Tigers at home in Reed Arena on Valentine's Day. Expect the Aggies to give a much better effort at home to avenge the loss to LSU.

2. Mississippi State

This is the best team in the conference and a win will be the toughest task of the regular season, but it would be a huge statement win if the Aggies pull it off. Mississippi State has a plethora of players which can score both in the paint and on the perimeter. The problems start with the Bulldogs' 6-foot-7 center Teaira McGowan. She can score in bunches and grab rebounds. However, she is a liability on defense in transition. If the Aggies can run on her like Oregon did back in December, she'll be less effective. The Ducks held her to only four points.

3. Kentucky

After a great last-second win against the Wildcats, the Aggies got a big confidence boost after beating a nationally-ranked program. Kentucky out-rebounded Texas A&M, but they couldn't overcome their slow start. The Wildcats will be out for revenge in late February for the rematch. This will be a tough final road game, but it should get the Aggies primed for the SEC Tournament.

These three games will let you know what the Aggies are made of. If they can win these games, we might as well put them in the Final Four.
