An announcement said that Amarr Knox, Shawn Fulcher, Corey Hines, and Tony Madlock — who are no longer members of the team — engaged in game manipulation for sports betting reasons. The NCAA said that these Level I violations occurred in December 2024.
Of these students, Knox agreed to his violations. The NCAA says that Hines and Fulcher provided false information during the investigation and that Madlock just chose not to participate in the investigation. Providing false information is also a Level I violation.
According to Knox's report, he and the three other now-former athletes received an offer from a sports bettor to throw a game against Southern Mississippi. They joined this bettor on a Facetime call to discuss the situation, at which point Madlock reportedly said he would not play due to an injury.
Knox reported that they all received $2,000 from a second sports bettor for intentionally throwing the game. Hines and Fulcher later denied participating in this call and sharing information with the sports bettors. They also denied that they bet on sports through daily sites.
"In January 2026, Fulcher and Hines were indicted by the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on various fraud charges, including bribery in sports wagering contests, wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud for their involvement in the events surrounding the Southern Mississippi game," the NCAA said.
"Although the Committee on Infractions does not currently assess penalties for student-athletes who violate NCAA rules, their participation in violations is not without consequence. Student-athletes who are found to have violated NCAA rules are ineligible and can be reinstated only with the assistance of an NCAA school."
Madlock had exhausted his eligibility before being banned from NCAA competition. Hines had transferred to Temple but can no longer join the team. Fulcher and Knox are no longer part of the Alabama State University team.
