Cincinnati HS Coach Completes Marathon In 5.5 Hours While Dribbling Basketball

Running a marathon in and of itself is tough enough. It's not for the faint of heart, or especially, the wobbly-legged. But imagine doing it while dribbling a basketball — the entire time. Like, for 5 1/2 hours.

Well, Cincinnati Lakota East High School assistant girls basketball coach Katelyn Haralamos doesn't just have to imagine it. She did it -, by completing the Flying Pig Marathon, dribbling a ball the entire time.

It may not be a world record, but it could be, too. It's also likely a first.

"Haralamos chose to compete this way to spread awareness for 'Saturday Hoops,' a local non-profit that aims to teach basketball to the Tri-State's youth to keep them out of trouble and off of the streets," Local 12 News wrote.

Haralamos played college basketball at Wittenburg University, a Division III school in central Ohio. She says that women's basketball is on the rise — and it's hard to argue with her about that one.

"It's just really an exciting time right now," Haralamos said. "When's the last time you can name a female basketball player over a male basketball player? I think everyone knows Caitlin Clark's name right now. It's really an exciting time that we live in, that never used to happen when I was growing up. It's really awesome for these young girls, and boys, to have strong female role models to look up to."

So part of the reason for doing this was to not only raise awareness for women's basketball but to celebrate just how far the game has come, and how much further it can still go.

But besides all that, it really was quite an amazing feat by a coach who has played the game and knows how to run.
