Coach Cal might have had the dumbest idea at SEC spring meetings

Is Calipari for real on this one?

Kentucky coach John Calipari has had some hair-brained ideas in his time in Lexington. He had two different platoons for a season and we all know how that experiment ended. None of his previous ideas may be more perplexing than this one he proposed at the SEC spring meetings in Destin, Florida.

By having a preseason tournament, the SEC would either be predetermining its automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament before anyone else or would just have a tournament for fun before any of these teams form an identity for the season. If this were to happen then it would basically render the SEC slate almost meaningless. Teams wouldn't be playing for a high seed in the conference tournament in hopes of getting the automatic bid to the big dance, but they would be playing in hopes of an at-large bid.

Nothing about this suggestion makes sense and Calipari might be on something if he honestly thought other schools or the conference would be cool with that. It's also a sign that he is incredibly confident in his squad this year and he should be considering he hauled in the second-best recruiting class for 2016.
