Eastern Kentucky basketball player Austin Ball was arrested over the weekend after police say he ran a stop sign and drove into a ditch while under the influence of alcohol.

According to an arrest citation, via WKYT, Richmond police observed Ball, 22, allegedly run a stop sign Saturday at the intersection of K Street and Four Mile Avenue before his vehicle ended up in a ditch on nearby Earlene Court.
Officers reported smelling alcohol coming from the vehicle. Ball initially denied drinking and told police he had not seen the stop sign, according to the citation.
Authorities said Ball later acknowledged he had been drinking but believed he was capable of driving his friends home.
Ball was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and disregarding a stop sign. He was booked into the Madison County Detention Center before later posting bond.
In a statement to the Richmond Register, Eastern Kentucky University said it is aware of the incident and is handling the matter internally.
Ball, a rising redshirt junior from West Virginia, transferred to EKU after spending two seasons at George Mason. He appeared in 31 games for the Colonels last season and averaged eight points per game.
No additional details about the incident have been released.
