The Fayette County Detention Center confirmed Kriisa was arrested Friday and remains in custody. Because the matter is being handled as a federal case, detention officials said they could not provide details about the allegations or charges. Bail has not been set.

On3 first reported the arrest, saying the case is tied to Kriisa's time at West Virginia during the 2023-24 season. The outlet reported that the allegations involve a fraud investigation, though federal authorities have not publicly released details of the case.

A court hearing is scheduled for next week, according to the report.

Kriisa, 25, recently completed a six-year college basketball career that included stops at Arizona, West Virginia, Kentucky and Cincinnati.

The arrest comes just days after Kriisa was announced as a member of La Familia, Kentucky's alumni team competing in The Basketball Tournament. The team later announced on social media that he will no longer participate.

Kriisa appeared in nine games for Kentucky during the 2024-25 season before suffering a season-ending foot injury. He averaged 4.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game, including a career-high 12 assists against Bucknell. He spent last season at Cincinnati, where he averaged 5.8 points and 3.0 assists in 19 games.

Kriisa had planned to begin his professional basketball career in his native Estonia following The Basketball Tournament.

Federal authorities have not publicly commented on the case.
