More than five decades after his final game, Stewart's name still sits atop one of the program's most remarkable records. His career average of 28.1 points per game remains the highest in Richmond history, a mark no Spider before or since has been able to touch.

And he did it in just two seasons.

Stewart arrived in 1972 after transferring from Essex County College and immediately became one of the most dangerous scorers in the country. As a junior in the 1972-73 season, the 6-foot-5 forward averaged a school-record 30.2 points per game, the fifth-best mark nationally that year. He was named Southern Conference Player of the Year despite Richmond finishing with an 8-16 record.

The following season was just as impressive.

As a senior and team captain in 1973-74, Stewart averaged 26.5 points and 12 rebounds per game while helping lead Richmond to its first winning season since the late 1950s. He earned First Team All-Southern Conference honors and was named an All-American for the second straight year.

The Cleveland Cavaliers selected Stewart in the sixth round of the 1974 NBA Draft, but he later chose to build a career serving the Richmond community.

His legacy in Spider basketball, though, will never fade.
