NCAA champion and North Carolina point guard Joel Berry II was expected to be in the conversation for National Player of the Year honors this year and it looks like he will have some ground to make up to start the year. UNC announced on Monday that Berry will miss about a month with a broken bone in his right (shooting) hand.

The Tar Heels aren't expected to be as good as their championship-winning squad from last season, but they are a top-15 team in the preseason Coaches Poll and should stay that way most of the season. However, Theo Pinson, Seventh Woods, Cameron Johnson, and Kenny Williams will have to step up in Berry's absence and make sure the team doesn't fall off without his 14.7 points and 3.6 assists per game from last season.
