Johnny Jones will keep his job despite underachieving with a superstar

This is just a dumb move.

LSU basketball was one of the most underwhelming and disappointing college basketball teams this past season. The Tigers had freshman phenom and likely No. 1 pick in this year's NBA Draft, Ben Simmons. The team went 19-14 and 11-7 in SEC play against a truly mediocre conference.

Many people are blaming Johnny Jones for this team's record —- including me —- but it seems that Jones will get to keep his job for another season. Athletic director Joe Alleva alleviated any concerns people might have had about the coach going into next season.

Let's not forget that the 2015 recruiting class also featured five-star shooting guard Antonio Blakeney and four-star shooting guard Brandon Sampson and Jones was still unable to make anything happen. The school was so disappointed in the season that it didn't even accept a NIT bid to give Simmons more looks from scouts. That should have been a dead giveaway how everyone felt about the coaching job.
