Kansas is only playing with seven scholarship players against Kentucky due to five-star forward Billy Preston being held out of the game by the team. He was involved in a single-car accident on campus and now the administration wants a "clearer financial picture specific to the vehicle" before Preston can play again. There is not currently a timetable for his return as of yet, but he has yet to make his debut in a Kansas uniform. He was held out of the first game of the season for missing curfew before the game against Tennessee State.
Preston was Kansas' top ranked recruit in the 2017 class by far. He was the No. 18 recruit overall in the class and was joined by four-star guard Marcus Garrett in a small two-man class
