Melo Trimble has declared for this year's NBA Draft albeit it without an agent. That means he can go back to school if he doesn't like where he might end up in the draft and a lot of people are saying he should take advantage of that. One legendary Maryland coach was a little more direct about it.
Gary Williams, the man who brought Maryland a national title in 2002, said flat out, "Get your butt back to school." He expounded on that a little more though and pretty much said what everyone was thinking.
"It looks like he's not going to go past the middle of the second round and that means you might not get drafted. Guys get funny on Draft Day and there's no guarantee he would go in the second round. And there are a lot of good point guards that are coming out into the draft this year."
"You look at guys like (Maryland freshman) Diamond Stone (who declared) ... he's got guaranteed money this year, he's got a tremendous (upside) and he's 6-foot-10. There's not many people 6-foot-10. There's a lot of people 6-foot-2."
Trimble had a pretty bad slump this past season and just could not recover. He shot only 41 percent from the floor and 33 percent from beyond the arc a year after shooting 44 and 40 percent from those spots, respectively. He averaged two more assists, but two less points going from his freshman to sophomore campaign. The Terrapins made it to the Sweet 16 this season where they were bounced from the NCAA Tournament by the No. 1 overall seed Kansas.
