Miami of Ohio is 29-0. And somehow, that is not good enough for Bruce Pearl.

The longtime coach said on TNT Sports that if the RedHawks fail to win the MAC Tournament, they do not deserve an at-large NCAA bid. Undefeated regular season or not.

That did not sit well in Oxford.

Athletic director David Sayler fired back on X, calling Pearl's comments "disrespectful" and saying he should not be near a TV studio covering the sport if that is how he feels. He also took issue with Pearl using "we" when referencing Auburn Tigers men's basketball.

Then it got personal.

Sayler suggested nepotism could be at play, pointing out that Steven Pearl is Auburn's head coach, and implying Pearl might be protecting a bubble team with skin in the game.

For Miami, this is about respect. The RedHawks have rolled through the MAC at 16-0 and sit at 29-0 overall. Critics will point to a soft schedule and a lack of signature wins. Supporters will point to the zero in the loss column.

Two games remain before the MAC Tournament tips off.  If Miami slips once, the committee has a decision to make.

And thanks to Bruce Pearl, the spotlight just got a whole lot brighter.
