Preseason AP All-American team features freshman for just fourth time ever

The preseason AP All-American team has only had three freshmen named to it in its history with all three coming in the last five years. They were Harrison Barnes of North Carolina (2010-11), Andrew Wiggins of Kansas (2013-14), and Jahlil Okafor of Duke (2014-15). For the third year in a row, the Associated Press has named a freshman to its preseason All-American team with power forward Ben Simmons from LSU.

Providence's Kris Dunn, Oklahoma's Buddy Hield, Iowa State's Georges Niang, and Gonzaga's Kyle Wiltjer also made the list. All of them are seniors or juniors with the exception of Simmons. All are promising NBA prospects and Simmons is widely believed to be a potential No. 1 pick in 2016's NBA Draft.
