In view of Auriemma's accomplishments, since 1985, he has accumulated 11 national titles, 23 Final Four berths. Not to mention, he has two stand alone win streaks that include 98 and 111 games.

His all-time record is 1,217 wins and 162 losses.

To witness Auriemma's record-breaking win, 63 former players were in the building.

Some names include: Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi, and Maya Moore.

This record may be safe for awhile, as Auriemma is actually the only active coach with 850+ wins in women's Division I basketball.

That is, Stanford's longtime coach Tara VanDerveer, who previously had the record of 1,216 wins, retired in April. Then Duke's legendary men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski retired in 2022 with 1,202 wins.

As for thinking about retirement now that he has reached the top, 70-year-old Auriemma says he's happy to continue in his current role, which he has been in for the last 40 seasons.

"As long as I'm here and I walk in this building and I see the players here and I see the people that work in my little world and how we all kind of motivate each other," Auriemma said, "there's no other place I would want to be."
