With writing on the wall, Kentucky guard set to transfer

He was not likely to see the floor much this year either.

Charles Matthews was an ESPN top 100 recruit coming out of high school and committed to Kentucky in the class of 2015. He couldn't break out behind Tyler Ulis, Isaiah Briscoe and Jamal Murray since those three spread the minutes around to play pretty much every minute of every game so he has decided to transfer.

In his freshman season, Matthews averaged 1.7 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 10.3 minutes per game. The 6'6" guard apparently wants to be more of a scorer than the energy guy Calipari and the Kentucky staff saw him to be so he is on his way out. According to Kentucky Sports Radio, Calipari did want Matthews to come back for his sophomore season, but it looks like that's not likely to happen.

With all of the five-star recruits coming in this year it didn't look like Matthews had any better shot of getting playing time again so it makes sense that he would want to get out and play somewhere where he can really make a difference on the court.
