Nobody in the world can relate to Caitlin Clark's (probable) professional future quite like Aliyah Boston. Not only was Boston the first overall pick of the 2023 WNBA Draft — which Clark is sure to be in 2024, if she doesn't decide to return to Iowa — but Boston was also drafted by (and currently plays for) the Indiana Fever, which also holds the first pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Therefore, if Clark decides to go pro, she and Boston will become teammates.
Boston was recently asked about potentially teaming up with Clark next year. The discussion came during an interview by Indianapolis' WISH-TV while Boston was on the sidelines of the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Indianapolis Colts game last weekend. But it took her a couple questions before she mentioned Clark by name.
First, Boston was asked her thoughts on the Fever landing a second consecutive first-overall draft pick. "Super exciting," Boston said. "I think it's going to be a great addition to our team whoever we're able to draft in that moment. So, I'm really excited."
The Indianapolis TV station clearly wanted a sound bite of their franchise player talking about Clark directly, so Boston was asked a follow-up question about the Fever potentially drafting Iowa's megastar.
"I think whoever we add is going to be amazing," Boston said — which wouldn't suffice for WISH-TV. Luckily for them, Boston got specific when asked what about Clark's game impresses her the most.
"How versatile she is. Her vision on the court," Boston said. "I think that's super important. And I think she does a great job of that at Iowa."
Boston then elaborated on Clark's pending decision about whether to return to Iowa or go pro. "I think it's going to be exciting whatever she decides, whether that's to come out (into the WNBA Draft) or that's to stay in," Boston said. "Regardless, ultimately, it's her decision. She has to do what's best for her. But whoever we get in the No. 1 pick, they're going to enjoy the Fever."
Despite it taking Boston some time to mention Clark, there's no doubt that the duo would gel right away if they were both playing for the Fever. Not only are both players generational talents, but their respective playing styles also complement each other perfectly.
Although we have to wait until March for Clark's decision, at least Fever fans can pass time this winter imagining their team with both her and Boston on its roster.
