Billie Jean King Has a Message For Caitlin Clark

It's quite common for Caitlin Clark to take the sports world by storm these days. Yet, when she did so again last night, it was the result of something she did off the court, rather than on it.

Thursday evening, Clark announced via her Instagram that she would be forgoing her final year of NCAA eligibility and entering the 2024 WNBA Draft.

In the heartfelt post's caption, Clark wrote, 'While this season is far from over and we have a lot more goals to achieve, it will be my last one at Iowa. I am excited to be entering the 2024 WNBA Draft.'

Clark's massive announcement was posted across just about every sports social media account. When ESPN announced the decision on X, American tennis legend Billie Jean King reposted it with some kind words directed at Clark.

'Congratulations, @CaitlinClark22, on the next step of your journey. May you experience continued health and success in the @WNBA!', King wrote.

This isn't the first time we've seen the tennis icon praising Clark's achievements. Back when Clark broke the NCAA women's all-time scoring record last month, King also posted about it on X, saying, 'She's made history! Cheers to @CaitlinClark22, the new NCAA Women's Basketball All-Time Leading Scorer. @IowaWBB'

Just like the rest of us, King seems to be soaking in the greatness we're witnessing from Clark on a near daily basis.

With all speculation about whether Clark will go to the WNBA or return for Iowa for one more season now behind us, the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft on April 15th — which belongs to the Indiana Fever — has been decided.

Yet, we Clark fans can't overlook the next month and a half.

Not only is Clark (most likely) one game away from breaking Pete Maravich's all-time NCAA scoring record regardless of gender, but her Iowa squad is still looking to produce their school's first ever national championship — and get revenge against Kim Mulkey's LSU Tigers team for defeating them in that national championship last year.

So while we can all get excited about seeing Clark in the WNBA next season, let's enjoy watching the best scorer in college basketball history while she's still in college.

Billie Jean King surely is.
