LSU women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey is now the highest-paid coach in the sport after signing a huge extension.

According to Reed Darcey with NOLA.com, the LSU athletic department rewarded Mulkey with a 10-year, $32 million contract extension. That deal now makes Mulkey the highest-paid coach in women's college basketball, surpassing the likes of Connecticut's Geno Auriemma and South Carolina's Dawn Staley.

Mulkey has quickly turned LSU into a powerhouse in just two seasons with the program. After a second-round exit and a 26-6 record during the 2021-22 season, Mulkey helped lead the Tigers to a 34-2 record capped off by a national championship over the Iowa Hawkeyes thanks to the likes of Angel Reese and Alexis Morris.

Prior to taking over in Baton Rouge, Mulkey was the head coach for Baylor from 2000 to 2021, turning the program into one of the best in the country. Along with 12 Big 12 regular season titles, Mulkey led Baylor to four Final Four appearances and three national championships in 2005, 2012, and 2019. Mulkey was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020 thanks to her success as both a coach and a player.

As a player, Mulkey was a point guard for Louisiana Tech in the 1980s, winning back-to-back national titles in both 1981 and 1982. An All-American for the program, Mulkey was named Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award winner in 1984, an award given to the best player in the nation under 5'6".

With a new extension and a superstar still leading the show in Reese, Mulkey's expectations are sky-high heading into the 2023-24 season. The Tigers got even stronger over the offseason as well, adding two top transfers in Haley Van Lith from Louisville and Aneesah Morrow from DePaul.

With so much talent on the roster, it will be difficult for any other team in the country to take down Mulkey and the LSU tigers this upcoming season.
