A college football coach has stunningly announced his retirement

This came out of nowhere.

Most coaching moves in college football are done by December, but a rare spring announcement graced the sport on Thursday.

Idaho State announced via Twitter that head football coach Mike Kramer would be retiring after six seasons with the Bengals.

Football Scoop first reported the news of Kramer's departure.

Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Rob Phenicie was announced as the team's new head coach. Phenicie had actually just accepted a job with Northern Iowa two days ago, but it looks like he will be on his way back to Idaho.

Idaho State, an FCS program, was 18-50 in Kramer's tenure as the head coach. Eight of those wins came in one seasons, too, as Kramer's Bengals went 8-4 in a solid 2014 campaign.
