On Saturday, the ACC fined both Louisville and Virginia Tech $25,000 after the two teams reportedly received information on Wake Forest's play calls from former Wake coach Todd Elrod. Elrod, who had become a Wake Forest broadcaster after his coaching tenure, has since been dismissed by the program.
From the ACC's statement on the fines:
Following the league's review of the internal investigation by Wake Forest, and subsequent discussion between the conference office and schools, it was determined that game plan information for four games was provided to three institutions over the span of three seasons. The three schools involved are Virginia Tech (2014), Louisville (2016) and Army (2014, 2016).
The ACC notes that the $25,000 fine is the highest allowed by the league's by-laws. The money will end up going towards scholarship funding. While the ACC can't fine Army for the matter, the Academy is conducting its own investigation of the game plan leaks.
Interestingly enough, Wake Forest actually won both 2014 games where information was allegedly provided. Including this one:
This isn't the only punishment handed down in the scandal, as Louisville had suspended offensive coordinator Lonnie Galloway for the Citrus Bowl for his involvement in this year's game against Wake Forest. Louisville and Wake Forest played on Nov. 12 this year, with Louisville allegedly receiving the leaked game plans ahead of that game. Wake Forest found out about the leaked plans before the game, and attempted to change their game plans as a result. Louisville won the game 44-12 after an explosive fourth quarter to pull away.
Galloway and Elrod, who leaked the plans, were both former assistants with Wake between the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
We will bring you more on this developing situation as more is learned on the scandal.
