Four-star defensive lineman Isaiah Campbell has decommitted from Clemson. Campbell rescinded his commitment to the Tigers last week and posted the announcement on X.
"After much prayer and counsel, I am announcing my decommitment from Clemson University," Campbell said in a statement. "At this time, I am continuing to build relationships with schools that share my values and goals. I know this may come as a shock, but please respect me, my family, and my coaches as we navigate this transition.
Campbell pledged to the Tigers back in January, choosing the ACC program over Florida State, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Tennessee. With his reconsideration, the Southern defensive tackle is already slated to take official visits to Tennessee and North Carolina. The Volunteers and Tar Heels are the two primary contenders in his recruitment going forward.
The four-star prospect is ranked in the top 100 of ESPN300 and a top three recruit in his home state of North Carolina.
The Tigers still have a solid mix of talent to work with in their 2025 recruiting class, including six ESPN300 commits. Though many feel it's a far cry from the Clemson program that once dominated in the recruiting stage of the season. The Athletic's Manny Navarro was candid in his opinion of the program's state in college football during an appearance on Sirius XM radio.
"I just think Dabo's cut himself off from the reality that you need to be able to find proven players who can come in and replace somebody that you lose," Navarro said. "I look at Clemson, and I think this is a program — they've taken a step back to what they were before Dabo got there. In my mind, that's what they are. They are the Clemson before Dabo got there."
For the record the Clemson Tigers with head coach Tommy Bowden made the postseason every year except for 2004. Impressive as that may be, the difference in Tigers football before Swinney is undeniable.
