Clemson adds intriguing opponent to future football schedule

Well this has the potential to be fun.

The Clemson Tigers currently reign over the college football world as the defending national championships and, as such, the spotlight is quite bright on Dabo Swinney and company. Deshaun Watson is, quite obviously, gone to the NFL but expectations remain quite high and the level of intrigue surrounding the program is significant.

With that in mind, even future scheduling for Clemson is currently interesting and we now know an intriguing future opponent for the Tigers. Kevin Kelley of FBSchedules.com brings word that Clemson will host FAU on Sept. 16, 2023 in what will be just the second visit from the Owls to Memorial Stadium.

Of course, it must be noted that former Alabama offensive coordinator and Tennessee/USC head coach Lane Kiffin is now the head man at FAU and that adds another element to the mix. The obvious joke would be that Kiffin, who doesn't stay anywhere very long, won't be around by 2023 but it will provide some talking points for Kiffin during his stay at the school.

Clemson will face off against Auburn (2017) and Texas A&M (2018 and 2019) in the near future and those are clearly more important long-term match-ups for the school. On the FAU side, though, this is big news and it would be fun to see the Owls roll into Clemson should Kiffin have that program cooking in six years.

We can all dream.
