On Wednesday, five-star offensive tackle Jackson Carman (6-foot-6, 330 pounds, Fairfield, OH) announced that he had committed to Clemson over Ohio State and USC. When prompted on why he picked the Tigers, Carman said that a quote from Swinney about Urban Meyer being on the "back end of his career in terms of years left" was an underlying factor.
Dabo Swinney told Jackson Carman during his recruitment that Urban Meyer is on the back end of his career in terms of years left. “It wasn’t a major factor, but it was an underlying one,” Carman said.

Swinney, who had media availability on Wednesday, was asked about the quote and said that he couldn't recall such a conversation.
Dabo was asked about this by a group of reporters. Said he didn’t recall exactly what was said but definitely did not deny it. https://t.co/FlVchisc8P

Ohio State had long been the favorite for Carman, but things had shifted in heavy favor of Clemson in recent weeks. Carman even acknowledged that he wasn't really sure about his decision until this morning, and that it was a close battle between Clemson and Ohio State.
With Carman's commitment, Clemson picks up yet another Top 10 recruit for this class, as the Tigers already have No. 1 recruit Trevor Lawrence and No. 3 recruit Xavier Thomas. Dabo Swinney seems thrilled about where his 2018 recruiting class is right now.
Carman is rated as a five-star and the No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2018 class by the 247Sports Composite. He also ranks as the No. 9 overall recruit in the nation.
