Clemson plays Syracuse Friday night and that leaves coach Dabo Swinney’s Saturday wide open. He is reportedly planning on being back in Tuscaloosa to celebrate the National Championship won by the 1992 Alabama team he was on.

Swinney started out as a walk-on for the 1989 season, but earned a scholarship and was a three-time letterman before finishing up his career on that 1992 title team. He also coached at Alabama from 1993 to 2000 as a graduate assistant, tight ends coach and receivers coach at different times in his tenure there. He would then move on to Clemson where he eventually became head coach and broke the Crimson Tide’s heart with a win against them in last year’s National Championship game.

It will be interesting to see if Swinney gets more boos or cheers when his name is announced. Other members of that team were quarterback Jay Barker who finished fifth in the Heisman voting, running back Derrick Lassic who was second in the SEC with 11 touchdowns on the year, and of course Swinney himself.
